Special Inspections

L.E. Gregg provides Special Inspections services as required by the Kentucky and International Building Code regulations for each project. These inspections include masonry construction, structural steel construction, concrete construction, foundation construction and soil/undercut construction.

Specific construction materials testing services include the following:

Masonry Construction Inspections
Observation and/or testing of the placement, consistency and compressive strength of mortar and grout
Observation of size, location and placement of joints and connectors
Observation of placement, size and grade of structural steel reinforcement
Observation of placement, size and compressive strength of CMU block

Steel Construction Inspection
Verification that all work is performed according to approved specifications
Field inspections to verify that all structural steel framing is performed according to approved specifications
Field inspections by a certified weld inspector of all fillet and groove welds as required
Field inspections of high strength bolted connections and slip-critical connections
Provide nondestructive testing for complete penetration welds

Concrete Construction Inspections
ACI certified field sampling and testing of plastic concrete as to slump, air content, temperature and casting specimens for compressive strength testing
Observation of placement, size and grade of reinforcing steel for foundation, slab and wall construction

Foundation Excavation Construction Inspections
Performing DCP testing to verify bearing strength of soils as per specifications
Monitor undercutting operations to verify that proper bearing materials have been reached
Probe bearing material between DCP tests to ensure soil consistency

Soil/Undercut Construction Inspections Include
Monitoring proofrolls of exposed soils to determine undercut requirements
Monitor undercutting operations to verify that proper bearing materials have been reached
Perform in-place field density testing to verify compaction and moisture requirements are acheived per specifications
